P. Dawson Pimps Out At Home

Ch-ch-check it out - Diddly Dawson chillin’ in his pimp suit and loungin’ in his pimp chair.  He’s the shiz-nit.

Dawson Walks!

MAJOR MILESTONE ALERT!  Last Thursday, August 10th, Dawson took his first totally solo steps.  It’s very odd, but the appearance of my parents seems to spur the children on to new developments.  I remember Cedar walking for the first time when they were visiting, too.  Anyway, after a weekend of camping, he’s returned home and has started walking across the room, free-standing for up to 30 seconds, and standing up entirely on his own from a sit (I can’t even do that anymore!)

Cedar’s First Nightmare

I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.  Cedar had her first nightmare last night and here’s how she described it: "A giant teddy bear dragged me away and wouldn’t let me come back to Mummy or Daddy!"  I eventually decided to weep, mainly because it means that Cedar is now sleeping in my bed at night, flailing and kicking, sweating and squirming, and generally keeping me awake.  Sweet dreams!

Dawson On The Move

Dawson was mental on the vacation - non-stop moving, crawling, exploring, throwing, digging, you name it.  For our first vacation with two kids, it was a lot of fun, but most certainly not very relaxing…

Playground Equipment 1, Cedar Pratt 0

We’ve just come back from a fantastic weekend at Lasquiti Island with our friends Clay and Leslie, and while the weekend was amazing - perfect weather, gorgeous cottage, and terrific company - the trip ended on a schtickle of a sour note.

Waiting in line for the ferry from Nanaimo to Vancouver, I was in the cafeteria getting drinks when someone came in and said, ‘Is there a Steve here? Your daughter has had an accident.’  I ran out to see a crowd of people surrounding my blood-soaked daughter.  Cedar had slipped on some playground equipment, slammed her head into a pole and dropped five feet to the ground.  She split open a big cut just above her eye and it bled like crazy.

We went to the local hospital and because the cut was close to her eye and there was no doubt she would freak out and thrash like crazy, they gave her a good dose of Ketamine to basically make her drunk/stoned/completely out of it.  It was pretty awful seeing your 3 year old hammered out of her mind with needles going into her head, but the doctors and nurses did a great job.

After she was fixed up, we’d missed the last ferry home and had to get a hotel room.  Dawson suddenly developed a fever, which kept he and Lisa up half the night.  The dog barfed on my bed in the middle of the night and Cedar bled all over her pillow.  AND at 5am, as I sat on the corner of the bed pulling my socks on getting ready to catch the first ferry back to Vancouver, I felt a wetness spreading through my ass and realized that I’d sat in a pile of dog vomit in my only pair of shorts.  Here’s what Cedar looked like today…

The only entertaining part was that while Cedar was ’sobering up’ from her drug experience, I used our camera to capure this video.  It’s VERY funny, so WATCH IT!

Jazz Hands In Deep Cove!

We rented a couple boats in Deep Cove last week with entire Pratt clan out visiting.  It was spectacular… so spectacular that I ended up getting giddy and producing a mildly embarrassing, full-on “jazz hands” leap into the ocean.  My brother, Brian (aka, The Beef) nearly capsized one of the boats with his dive.

Montessori Tea Time

As Cedar’s first year of Montessori is wrapping up, the school put together a tea and singing performance for the parents.  After hearing the group sing songs like “Feeling Groovy,”  (Download MOV00021.MPG) each child brought tea over to his/her parents.  Here’s a very careful Cedar making sure that not a drop is spilled…
