I know this is getting ridiculous, but more great pics of airborne dog from the beach…

Another in my continuing series of photos of Sandy the Flying Dog. (Something tells me it might be more interesting to just start a blog devoted to pictures of Sandy flying through the air at the beach.)

A while back, I thought maybe I’d rent an art gallery and mount a Playmobil art installation. Now, though, I’m sure I want to rent an art gallery and mount an exhibition of photos of flying dogs. As bizarre as this may seem, I recently found out that I’m not alone - I was invited to join a Flickr group exclusively for pics of… flying dogs. Check out the group here - it’s pretty funny. This is my latest addition…

I am officially obsessed with taking photos of my dog running and digging at the beach. I keep getting one or two awesome shots that look like she’s flying through the air like a furry stealth bomber or Sandy the Super Eskipoo, but I still think I can get better ones. So every weekend, I head off to the beach and race the dog around, snapping about a million pics in order to get these…

I also love watching her dig. She flails around, her head and ears flying back, dirt shooting out between her back legs, all in some bizarre attempt to build a nest in which to deposit a crappy stick. I feel I’m probably the only one on Earth who finds these amusing, but I post them anyway in the hopes that someone else shares my sentiments.

I’ve borrowed a high-end camera from work to experiment with some web content ideas and wanted to try it out shooting some ‘action’. So off to the beach this morning to snap some pics of Sandy the insanely fast Eskipoo racing around Jericho on a mad tear. Here are a few of the best - the flying dog ones had me laughing to myself while uploading them on the computer.

Here’s a positive way that the City of Vancouver is helping to ring in the New Year - by having Animal Control staff at public beaches making sure that dogs are all on-leash. What a complete waste of time! We were out at Kits Beach the other day and were accosted by a woman from Animal Control about Sandy being off her leash. Okay, in the summer, I get it - people on the beach swimming and sunbathing don’t want to have to contend with dogs. But these are pictures of the beach minutes after she scolded us…

We watched as she wandered down the COMPLETELY DESERTED beach looking for more dog owners to harass. God forbid a 13 pound eskipoo is let loose on the unsuspecting sand! Hey Animal Control - lay off in the winter and go do something useful and productive. Go euthanize a few pitbulls! Or better yet, grab a big plastic bag and a shovel and help clean up the dog turds left in the parks.

Sandy got in on the gift action, getting a stuffed veterinarian. Very, very popular with the pooch.

After being forced to boil water for two weeks and having had days that have dumped over 100mm of rain, Vancouver is now in the midst of a two day snowstorm the likes of which I’ve never seen here. It’s been snowing for over 24 straight hours and at Queen Elizebeth park, where we went tobogganing today, there’s easily a foot and a half of snow on the ground. In Vancouver!!!

Highlights included Sandy leaping up in the air to catch snowballs, Dawson and Cedar playing the snow, and gorgeous trees all over the place covered in the heavy white stuff. LOTS of great pics on Flickr…
